1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar (50c)

PCGS VG8

The 1794 Flowing Hair half dollar represents one of America's earliest silver coin issues, produced during just the second year of official U.S. Mint operations. With a limited mintage of only 23,464 pieces and struck using relatively primitive technology, these coins rarely survived in any condition, let alone circulated examples with this level of detail preservation. First-year half dollars are true artifacts of the early American republic.

This VG08 example certified by PCGS displays honest wear from its time in circulation during the nation's formative years. The coin exhibits a pleasing medium gray patina that has developed naturally over its 230-year existence. Despite moderate wear, the major design elements remain clearly visible, with Liberty's profile and the eagle on the reverse still well-defined. The surfaces show expected smoothing from circulation but are free from significant problems that often plague early federal coinage.
