1799 Draped Bust Dollar ($1)
PCGS F12
The 1799 Draped Bust Dollar represents the early years of American silver dollar production, with only about 423,515 pieces struck at the Philadelphia Mint. As one of the early dates in the short-lived Draped Bust series, the 1799 holds particular appeal for type collectors and early American specialists. These dollars saw heavy use in commerce during an era when paper money was viewed with suspicion, making survivors in any grade increasingly scarce.
This PCGS F12 example displays honest, original surfaces with an attractive medium gray patina throughout. The coin shows even wear consistent with the grade, yet retains solid detail in Liberty's hair and the eagle's feathers. Both sides are remarkably clean with no significant marks or problems - just honest circulation wear that gives this early dollar real character. The eye appeal is excellent for a Fine grade coin, making it an ideal candidate for a type set or early dollar collection.
