The 1861-S Seated Liberty Quarter is a significant Civil War issue coin minted at the San Francisco facility during the opening year of the conflict. As the nation was being torn apart, the San Francisco Mint produced only 96,000 of these quarters, making it one of the scarcer dates in the series.
