1891 Seated Liberty Quarter (25c)

ANACS AU58

The 1891 Seated Liberty Quarter holds special significance as the final year of this long-running series that began in 1838. After over half a century of faithful service, the Seated Liberty design gave way to the new Barber Quarter in 1892. The Philadelphia Mint struck 3,920,600 pieces in 1891, making it one of the more available dates in the series, but finding pleasing high-grade examples with original surfaces is still a challenge.

This ANACS AU58 example showcases spectacular original toning that elevates it well above typical survivors. The obverse displays warm gray and brown hues with hints of blue, while the reverse explodes with vibrant peripheral toning in shades of blue, orange, and gold that frames the eagle beautifully. The surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade, showing only the lightest friction on the high points. The eye appeal is outstanding - this coin has clearly been preserved properly throughout its 130+ year journey. A gorgeous representative of this historic final year.
