1893 Morgan Dollar ($1)
PCGS
AU53
CAC
The 1893 Morgan Dollar is one of the semi-key dates in the series, with a mintage of just 378,792 pieces - significantly lower than most other Philadelphia issues. This was the beginning of the end for regular Morgan production, as economic conditions were shifting and silver dollar demand was waning. Finding original, problem-free examples becomes increasingly challenging as the date gets scarcer.
This CAC-approved AU53 is a textbook example of the grade with strong remaining detail and excellent eye appeal. The surfaces display original silver-gray patina with no signs of cleaning or other issues. Luster peeks through in the protected areas, particularly around the lettering and devices. The wear is perfectly even and appropriate for the grade, with Liberty's cheek and the eagle's breast showing the expected light friction. A solid, original coin that represents excellent value for this tougher date.
