1916-D Mercury Dime (10c)

NGC F12 CAC

The 1916-D Mercury Dime stands as one of the most legendary key dates in American numismatics. With a tiny mintage of just 264,000 pieces – the lowest in the entire series by a substantial margin – this coin was scarce from the moment it left the Denver Mint. Most examples were released into circulation before collectors realized their significance, making well-preserved specimens particularly elusive.

This CAC-approved F12 example presents exactly what you'd hope to find in a mid-grade key date Mercury. The coin displays even, honest wear with a pleasing silver-gray patina that's developed naturally over its century-plus existence. Despite its time in circulation, the date and mintmark remain clear, and Liberty's profile retains good definition. The reverse fasces and surrounding olive branches show similar consistent wear but remain well-defined. This is a textbook example of a properly graded Fine Mercury dime with excellent eye appeal for the assigned grade.
