1922 No D Lincoln Cent (1c) Strong Reverse
PCGS
VF25 BN
CAC
In 1922, the Philadelphia Mint did not produce any Lincoln Cents. This was due to the ample supply of cents from previous years, reducing the need for additional production. As a result, the entire production of Lincoln cents for that year was assigned to the Denver Mint. So in one sense, every cent produced that year was a 1922-D. But then! Something fun (for collectors) happened:
A pair of dies clashed without a coin between them, causing damage to both dies. To rectify this, a mint employee attempted to improve the appearance of an old obverse die by filing it down. In the process, the "D" mint mark was excessively filed off, resulting in the creation of the No D error.
And here we have a really excellent example of that error - a nice, pleasing mid-grade VF w/ CAC approval. Chocolate original surfaces, a few nicks and bumps from spending a few years as pocket change, but overall no major flaws, harsh cleanings, or any other issues that would prevent this coin from finding its home in your collection.
