1875 $5 National - Brighton, MA (Charter 1099)

PMG 15

This 1875 $5 National Bank Note from The National Bank of Brighton, Massachusetts, Fr. 403, represents the classic First Charter period of National Banking. Brighton's Charter #1099 was issued in 1864, making this bank part of the early wave of National Banks established during the Civil War era.

This exceedingly rare note - the only 1875 $5 National known for this bank - is Graded Choice Fine 15 by PMG. The note shows honest circulation with moderate handling consistent with the grade. The paper exhibits some minor tears and rust spots, but the overall structural integrity remains sound. The intricate engraved vignettes on both sides retain good detail despite the wear, and the red Treasury seal and charter number remain clearly visible. The reverse historical scene maintains its dramatic composition with solid ink definition throughout the central oval.
