1890 $2 Treasury Note Ornate Back
PMG 15
This 1890 $2 Treasury Note, Fr. 353, represents one of the most distinctive and historically significant designs in American currency. Issued under the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, these "Coin Notes" were backed by silver and gold held in the Treasury and featured large, ornate reverse denomination designs.
Graded Choice Fine 15 by PMG, this note exhibits moderate circulation with several folds and creases throughout, yet maintains solid structural integrity and respectable eye appeal. General McPherson's portrait remains well-defined despite the wear, and the intricate engraving work shows good detail retention. The red Treasury seal and serial numbers are clearly visible against the aged paper. The reverse displays the classic large green "TWO" design with strong color saturation and clear denomination markers, demonstrating the note's durability through its years of circulation.
