1793 Liberty Cap Large Cent (1c) S-13

At first glance this large cent may look like a slick common date liberty cap, though close inspection of the date reveals otherwise. The distinct upper cross bar of a "3" is evident- a diagnostic of the rarest major cent type ever minted. A wonderfully honest 1793 liberty cap cent that still presents nicely despite extensive circulation. LIBERTY remains fully readable, the portrait is nicely outlined, and the reverse wreath shows a surprising amount of detail for the grade. The surfaces are smooth, and natural, showing an even chocolate-brown patina- a refreshing appearance for a type often severely corroded. Attributed S-13 on the PCGS label and blessed with a green CAC sticker, this specimen offers exceptional originality for an elusive example of one of American numismatics' most storied first-year types.
