1800 Turban Head Gold Eagle ($10)
PCGS AU55
The 1800 Draped Bust Eagle represents one of the scarcest regular dates in the early gold series, with a tiny mintage of just 5,999 pieces. As one of the first gold eagles produced by the fledgling U.S. Mint, these coins saw immediate circulation and heavy use, making survivors in any condition quite desirable. The vast majority that exist today show extensive wear, putting properly graded AU examples at a significant premium.
This PCGS AU55 example showcases the rich, original honey-gold surfaces that early gold enthusiasts crave. The luster remains vibrant throughout, with only light high-point wear consistent with the grade. Both sides display excellent eye appeal with clean, mark-free fields and sharp remaining detail in the protected areas. The color is completely natural and untampered with - exactly what serious early gold collectors demand in a coin of this caliber.
