1810 Capped Bust Gold Half Eagle ($5) Large Date, Large 5

PCGS MS62 CAC

The 1810 half eagle represents the height of the Capped Bust Goldseries, struck during a period when gold coinage was still relatively limited at the Philadelphia Mint. The Large Date, Large 5 variety is the more common of the two major varieties for this date, but finding choice uncirculated examples with original surfaces remains a challenge. Most survivors show evidence of circulation or cleaning from decades of neglect before numismatic appreciation took hold.

This CAC-approved MS62 displays exceptional eye appeal for the grade, with rich honey-gold surfaces that radiate with original mint luster. The strike is remarkably sharp throughout, with full definition on Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's feathers. Clean fields show only minor contact marks typical of the grade, while the overall preservation is outstanding. The coin's natural color and surface quality clearly caught CAC's attention - this is exactly the type of early gold that makes MS62 feel like MS64.
