1821 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c) O-105a

ANACS VF30

The 1821 Capped Bust half dollar represents a key transitional date in the series. The early 1820s saw the U.S. Mint making technological improvements to their striking methods, resulting in more consistent coinage. This date is particularly significant as it falls during a period when the Mint was recovering from the economic challenges following the Panic of 1819, making surviving examples in VF and above increasingly desirable.

This VF30 example displays attractive, even gray patina that has developed naturally over its two centuries of existence. The surfaces show honest wear consistent with the grade, yet retain clear detail in Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's wing feathers. The fields are remarkably free of distracting marks or damage, suggesting this coin was lightly circulated before being saved. The eye appeal is excellent for the grade, with a pleasing balance between wear and remaining detail that many collectors seek.
