1832 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c) Small Letters HT-141 Houck's Panacea

An 1832 bust half featuring one of the most well known and sought after counterstamps- a well placed and sharply defined "HOUCKS PANACEA" in the left obverse field. Dr. Jacob Houck, a Baltimore based doctor and businessman used this punch on coins to advertise his panacea, a sort of cure-all health elixir. The example offered here is a bit too crusty, though still presents as a well detailed and respectable example. The coin shows strong XF detail, featuring sharp curls, well-defined drapery, and plenty of feather and shield definition on the eagle. The punch is optimally placed and fully legible- no squinting required. Overall a solid example of an HT-141 Houck's Panacea, housed in a PCGS Gold Shield holder.
