1838 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c) GR-5

A unicorn coin that would make a bust half weenie stop in his tracks! GR-5 is (by far) the rarest die marriage of the 1838 reeded edge half dollar. At the time of this writing PCGS has straight graded just seven specimens. The present XF45 is the sole representative of the grade at PCGS, with just two finer examples in all grades. Wholesome, original crust defines this elusive rarity. The surfaces show a natural blend of deep aged gray with lighter high points. Wear is light and even for the grade, with all the detail you could ever hope for from an XF. Nothing distracting turns up on either side - just honest, undisturbed skin and strong eye appeal for a choice XF reeded edge bust half.
