1839/8-C Classic Head Gold Quarter Eagle ($2.50)
PCGS AU53 CAC
This 1839/8-C $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is a notable coin for several reasons: It represents the first year of the "Type of 1839" Quarter Eagles and has a rare overdate feature; It was one of the early Charlotte Mint coins featuring the alluring obverse mintmark, and it's at a late die state where both the obverse and reverse dies are just basically smashed to pieces :)
Graded AU53 by PCGS and duly adorned with a coveted CAC sticker, this exceptional coin boasts strong detail along with a lovely, fully original color and surfaces. Despite light circulation wear, the surfaces retain significant design elements. The luster, albeit every so slightly muted by honest wear, still delivers pleasant eye appeal. The reverse is equally impressive, showing well-preserved details on the eagle and minimal contact marks. A spectacular CAC-approved example of early branch mint gold.
