1853 Seated Liberty Quarter (25c) Arrows and Rays

ANACS XF40

The 1853 Arrows & Rays quarter represents a pivotal moment in U.S. coinage history. When silver prices rose above face value in 1853, the Mint reduced the weight of silver coins and added distinctive arrows at the date and rays around the eagle to signify this change. The rays only appeared in 1853, making it a one-year type coin.

This XF40 example displays attractive original surfaces with pleasing steel-gray and blue-violet toning. The strike is bold, with clear definition remaining on all major design elements. The surfaces show honest wear consistent with the grade but remain remarkably smooth and problem-free. Light iridescent toning enhances the coin's eye appeal.
