1857 Gold Three Dollar ($3)
PCGS
AU50
CAC
The 1857 three dollar gold piece had a mintage of 20,891 pieces, making it one of the more available dates in this challenging series. While not a key date, three dollar gold pieces never gained much traction with the public during their 35-year run, and most that entered circulation stayed there until they were heavily worn or lost.
This CAC-approved AU50 shows exactly why this coin earned its sticker - the surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade with rich, original gold color throughout. Light wear is evident on the high points, but the coin retains strong detail and appealing luster in the protected areas. The eye appeal is excellent for a mid-grade circulated example, and the coin appears completely original and unmolested. A solid choice for a type set or three dollar gold collection.
