1869 Seated Liberty Dollar ($1)
PCGS XF45
The 1869 Seated Liberty dollar is a true post-Civil War prize, with a remarkably low mintage of just 423,700 pieces. This was during a time when silver dollars were primarily used for international trade rather than domestic circulation, making surviving examples in choice condition particularly desirable.
This XF45 example displays impressive original surfaces with a beautiful silver-gray patina that has developed naturally over its 150+ years. The details remain sharp and well-defined, particularly in Liberty's drapery and the eagle's feathers on the reverse. Light, even wear is confined to the highest points, and the fields show minimal marks for a coin that circulated briefly before being saved. The eye appeal is excellent for the grade, with traces of subdued luster still visible in protected areas.
