1869 Standard Silver Pattern Half Dollar (50c) J-753
PCGS PR64 CAC
This 1869 half dollar (J-753) reflects a fascinating period of experimentation in U.S. Mint history. Patterns like this represent test designs or compositions, often produced in limited numbers, making them highly sought after.
The Standard Silver design was produced in small quantities and sold directly to collectors. Of course, numismatics was in its infancy in the US in the mid-1800s, so only a few sets were produced and sold.
Graded PR64 by PCGS w/ CAC approval, this coin has some wispy hairlines from an old wipe (as many proofs do), but that's all that keeps this from a gem (or better). Struck in aluminum with a plain edge - an excellent addition to an advanced pattern collector's set.
