1872-CC Liberty Gold Eagle ($10)
PCGS
VG10
CAC
The 1872-CC $10 is a rare coin.
With a mintage of just 4,600, this coin is among the far scarcer issues from this iconic mint, marking a year when gold coins were in high demand for local commerce during the bustling days of the American frontier.
This coin is also a particularly special one: It's the second-lowest graded example (there is a single VG8), the only VG10 (pop 1), and the only and lowest-graded CAC-stickered coin as well (pop 1!). It's probably your only chance to add a PCGS+CAC 72-CC $10 to your collection example for under $20,000.
This example shows honest wear that is characteristic of its circulation history and has claims to a higher grade. There's plenty of detail, full rims on both sides, full LIBERTY, and its surfaces carry a warm, pleasing patina. Despite its grade, the details like Liberty's profile and the eagle's feathers remain surprisingly bold, offering a tangible connection to its storied past.
