1873 Indian Cent (1c) Doubled Liberty

PCGS XF40 BN

The 1873 "Doubled Liberty" Indian Cent is one of the most popular and widely collected varieties in the series. This variety shows clear doubling on the word "LIBERTY" in the headband, making it easily identifiable even to casual observers. The variety occurred when the working die received a second, slightly offset impression during the hubbing process, creating the distinctive doubled letters.

This PCGS XF40 example displays excellent detail for the grade, with sharp features throughout and particularly nice definition in the feathers and facial details. The surfaces show attractive chocolate-brown patina with smooth, problem-free skin. The eye appeal is solid, with minimal marks and excellent color saturation. The doubling on LIBERTY is clearly visible and well-defined, making this a textbook example of this popular variety.
