1875 Seated Liberty Half Dollar (50c)
PCGS MS64
The 1875 half dollar was struck during a period of economic recovery following the Civil War, with the Philadelphia Mint producing over 6 million pieces that year. While not originally scarce by any means, finding well-preserved examples with original surfaces, strong eye appeal, and mint state condition becomes increasingly challenging as these coins approach the century-and-a-half mark and survivorship totals dwindle.
This PCGS MS64 example showcases excellent preservation with vibrant cartwheel luster radiating across both sides. The surfaces display the kind of original, untoned silver-gray color that's becoming harder to find, with only minor contact marks appropriate for the grade. The strike is sharp throughout, with Liberty's details fully rendered and the reverse eagle showing crisp feather definition. The eye appeal is quite strong for an MS64, making this a solid representative of the type.
