1877 Indian Cent (1c)
PCGS
VF30 BN
CAC
The 1877 Indian Head Cent stands as the undisputed key date of the series, with a meager mintage of just 852,500 pieces - dramatically lower than the multi-million mintages typical of most other dates. This scarcity was compounded by the economic depression of the 1870s, which meant fewer coins were saved by the public, making survivors genuinely tough to find in any grade.
This CAC-approved VF30 example displays excellent eye appeal with rich chocolate-brown surfaces and smooth, problem-free skin. The coin retains sharp detail in Liberty's feathers and facial features, with the reverse showing clear definition in the wreath and shield. Both sides exhibit that desirable original patina that speaks to careful preservation over nearly 150 years. A solid, honest example of this elusive key date that would make an excellent addition to any Indian Head set.
