1882 Trade Dollar ($1)

PCGS PR62 DCAM

By 1882, Trade Dollars were no longer being struck for circulation, having been discontinued for that purpose in 1878. However, the mint continued producing proof examples specifically for the collector market through 1885. The 1882 proof had a mintage of just 1,097 pieces, making it a genuinely scarce coin.

This PCGS PR62DCAM example showcases exactly why the Deep Cameo designation exists. The mirrors are deep and reflective, creating a stunning contrast with the heavily frosted devices that seem to float above the surface. The eye appeal is exceptional for the grade - the surfaces are remarkably clean with only the most minor hairlines that keep it from a higher numerical grade. The strike is razor-sharp throughout, with every detail of Liberty and the eagle rendered in crisp relief. A beautiful example of this short-lived proof-only issue.
