The 1909-S Lincoln cent holds special significance as the scarcer first-year issue from San Francisco, with a mintage of just 1,825,000 pieces compared to Philadelphia's massive 72+ million. As the inaugural year of the Lincoln cent series, 1909 saw tremendous public enthusiasm, but the San Francisco examples were produced in much smaller quantities and saw heavy circulation on the West Coast.
This CAC-graded and approved AU50 Brown displays excellent detail retention with smooth, even chocolate-brown surfaces that show minimal marks for the grade. The coin exhibits solid eye appeal with nice original color and no concerning spots or corrosion. All major design elements remain sharp, and the surfaces are pleasingly smooth. A solid example of this important first-year key date that represents excellent value in the circulated grade range.
