1921 High Relief Peace Dollar ($1)

NGC MS65

The 1921 Peace Dollar holds the distinction of being the first year of the series and the only year struck in high relief. The Mint produced just over one million examples with this bold, sculptural design before switching to a lower relief version in 1922 due to production difficulties. The high relief design required multiple strikes and caused excessive die wear, making it impractical for mass production. This makes the 1921 High Relief a one-year type coin that's essential for any serious Peace Dollar collection.

This NGC MS65 example showcases the stunning luster and bold strike that makes the type so desirable. The surfaces blaze with cartwheel luster that rolls across both obverse and reverse in waves of brilliance. The strike is exceptional, with Liberty's hair strands and the eagle's feathers rendered in sharp detail. The fields are clean and free of significant marks, while the devices show the full sculptural depth that Anthony de Francisci intended. The coin maintains its original mint bloom with bright white surfaces and outstanding eye appeal throughout.
