1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter (25c)
PCGS XF40
The 1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter represents one of the more challenging San Francisco mintage issues of the series. With a modest production of just 1,360,000 pieces, it stands as one of the lower mintage dates from the 1920s. The economic pressures of the early 1920s resulted in reduced coinage production, making well-preserved examples from this era particularly desirable.
This XF40 example exhibits the honest wear expected for the grade, with a pleasing medium-gray patina that has developed naturally over its nearly century-old surfaces. The detail retention is quite respectable, with clear definition still visible in Liberty's flowing robe and the eagle's wing feathers. The fields show minimal marks for a coin that circulated, and the overall eye appeal is excellent for the assigned grade.
