1936-D San Diego Commemorative Half Dollar (50c)
PCGS
MS67
CAC
The 1936-D San Diego commemorative half dollar was struck to fund the California Pacific International Exposition, with the Denver Mint producing just 30,092 pieces. This makes it one of the more available commemorative halves from the mid-1930s, but finding gem examples with original surfaces and strong eye appeal remains a challenge.
This PCGS MS67 example with its well-deserved CAC sticker showcases exactly why this issue is so popular with type collectors. Beautiful golden-amber toning frames both sides, heaviest at the peripheries while allowing the centers to display their original brilliance. The surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade, with strong cartwheel luster that brings the design elements to life. Sharp details throughout and virtually mark-free fields make this a stellar representative of this classic commemorative.
