1937 Antietam Commemorative Half Dollar (50c)
PCGS
MS67
CAC
The 1937 Antietam commemorative half dollar was issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the bloodiest single day in American military history. With a mintage of just 18,028 pieces, this is among the lower mintage commemoratives of the classic era. The coins were sold at the battlefield itself and through mail order, with proceeds funding the preservation of the historic site where over 23,000 casualties occurred on September 17, 1862.
This CAC-approved MS67 displays gorgeous original toning that enhances rather than detracts from the coin's natural beauty. Rich golden-brown hues flow across both sides, with deeper chocolate tones gathering in the protected areas. The surfaces are remarkably clean with excellent eye appeal - the luster remains vibrant beneath the original patina. A solid gem example of this historically significant commemorative that would fit nicely into any high-grade type set or Civil War collection.
