1942/1-D Mercury Dime (10c)
ANACS XF40
The 1942/1-D is the most famous and sought-after overdate in the Mercury dime series. When the Denver Mint began striking 1942-D dimes, they used leftover 1941-D dies that had been overpunched with a "2" over the "1" in the date. Only about 10,000-15,000 pieces are estimated to exist, making this one of the key dates that every serious Mercury dime collector needs.
This ANACS XF40 example (housed in a classic "Soapbox" holder) shows excellent detail retention for the grade with natural pewter-gray toning throughout. The overdate is clearly visible, and both sides display smooth, problem-free surfaces with no notable marks or distractions. The coin exhibits solid eye appeal with original color and a clean appearance that makes it an excellent representative of this important variety.
