1982-D Lincoln Cent (1c) Large Date, Error - Struck on 10c Blank

NGC MS64

This is a spectacular mint error - a 1982-D Large Date Lincoln cent struck on a dime planchet. These wrong planchet errors occur when blanks intended for one denomination accidentally get fed into the press for another denomination. In this case, a 10-cent blank (2.3 grams) made its way into the cent production line. The smaller dime planchet means the cent dies couldn't strike the full design, leaving portions of both the obverse and reverse incomplete.

This NGC MS64 example shows excellent preservation for a mint error. The surfaces display strong cartwheel luster and the strike is surprisingly sharp given the planchet mismatch. Lincoln's portrait is fully detailed where struck, and the reverse shows crisp definition on the visible portions of the Memorial. The eye appeal is outstanding - clean, mark-free surfaces with original mint luster throughout. A wonderful example of this fascinating error type that would make an excellent addition to any error collection.
